Adopt a cat

If you are ready and thought thoroughly, visit some cat shelters, where some cats may have been waiting for months to find their new home, and maybe you can provide that home for them.

Before you adopt...

The decision to adopt a cat or kitten should not be taken lightly, so think carefully and thoroughly before impulsively bringing home an irresistibly cute kitten that won your heart at first glance. If you want you and your cat to have a long and happy future together, there are a number of factors you need to think about before you bring it into your home. Cats are beginning to live longer – often living up to 20 years – a period during which you must be prepared to act as a responsible owner. Before you adopt a cat, think about a few important questions.

What do you need to consider?

For starters, you need to make sure that you can afford to keep a cat, that your home is safe for a cat, that you will have patience when your cat gets to know your home, your family members, or other pets. You need to provide basic things for your cat, from food and water bowls, litter boxes, a hairbrush to bedding and toys. You also need to be prepared for emergencies, as when your cat gets sick, you may need to have an emergency visit to the veterinarian. If you are sure you are ready, then consider going to a nearby shelter to find your perfect cat.
